Great Time Of Year

Well it's been a busy one. But Thanksgiving and Black Friday are now past us and come Monday we will be have Cyber Monday. There will be plenty of deals going on in regards to sales. Did you pick up anything for Black Friday or will you be picking up something on Cyber Monday or will you wait and see what each week brings as it gets closer to Christmas?

Did anyone pick up a PS4 PRO and used it with the PSVR?

If you are waiting for the reviews to get the PS4 PRO even though the PSVR works with the original PS4, then I am going to say this...it does help. Robinson: The Journey is one fine example of how the PRO can help. The graphics have been beefed up to play on the PRO to a really wow factor. If you are planning on buying Robinson: The Journey, it seems the PSN store still has it for $59.99, but GameStop and Amazon has it for $39.99, so the choice is yours. So far the only negative thing I will say is if you have an HDR TV or got one on Black Friday, the processing box on PSVR does not support HDR pass through, so you do have to switch out the HDMI cable every time you go from PSVR to PS4 PRO only if you want the HDR game play. Other than that...

Recent and Upcoming:

Holoball by Treefortress Games came out on November 22nd. Putting in a full arena with that game stat started it all. Take PONG throw in some racquetball and discs of Tron and you have Holoball. Keep in mind you will be moving and is only $14.99 and can be purchased here

How We Soar  by Penny Black Studios, came out on Tuesday November 29th and originally looked to be at the $29.99 price mark, but was actually released for $19.99. In case you are not sure what How We Soar is, you are riding on a phoenix flying through the air. I will say, this has to be one of the most calming enjoyable PSVR titles. There is a story aspect, so if you get the chance to play this, experience it you should. Check out the trailer below and you can purchase it here

Pinball FX2 VR by Zen Studios also came came out on Tuesday 29th. Yes this has been released before on PS4, but wow on PSVR it works. So you might be thinking, pinball...vr? Yes now mix them together and enjoy this time. When you start the game it look like you are in room of a house or could be an apartment. You see three tables. One of the tables is Mars and when you are playing it's like your surroundings is in outer space with meteors and rockets to add to it. The game also has leader boards so you can see who the top of the top is. One of the tables you can buy is The Walking Dead and is based on the Tell Tale version, but very impressive. Fog is all around you, you can see a zombie and again just works. Pinball FX2 VR is only $14.99 and The Walking Dead table is $5.99. There is also the season 1 pack for $24.99.

The Walking Dead

And to close out the hat trick of PSVR releases is Crystal Rift. Now Crystal Rift is a dungeon crawler that has been released on other platforms and finally has made it to the PSVR. Please keep in mind this is a horror challenge type of game and through 26 levels, you will slowly uncover the narrative and story through exploration discovering dark secrets and following the path of those who have come before you. Crystal Rift is only $12.99 and can be purchased here

Coming out on December 6th is the Starwars Battlefront Rouge One VR mission. Take flight in an X-Wing and will be free to all Battlefront owners.

Game night comes on December 6th, we have from Ubisoft, Werewolves Within. The premise of the game is that your village is being attacked by werewolves. While one minute you may be trying to rid your home of werewolves, minutes later you might actually be the one trying to convince everyone else that you are not the one in this multiplayer game and only for $29.99.

As we come to the final month of 2016, remember there are still games to be played, fun still to be had in VR and this is a Great time of the year.

A Combo Of Things

I hope everyone is doing awesome in the world of PlayStation Nation. So who scored a PS4 PRO? Who has used it the PSVR? I can say this...very impressive. Just last night I tried out Robinson: The Journey. Everything was so clear, so smooth that I was actually stopping and just enjoying the details the of the plants and my new adopted pet dino while trying to play a game of Hide and Seek. In case you don't know what Robinson: The Journey is, check out the trailer.

Do you need the PRO?

Many have asked if you need the PRO or does it make the difference everyone is talking about? Well if you are happy with your original PS4 and don't have a 4k TV then you will be fine. But, if you do want a more clearer PSVR experience, then Yes the PS4 PRO might be for you. Now even if you don't have a 4K TV, the PS4 PRO will help out even on 1080p screens. But if you happen to have a 4K TV that has HDR such as the Samsung KS8000 or the Sony XBR65x850D and just playing games and you don't have a PS4 already then yes it is worth it. Now if you have a PSVR and a 4k TV with HDR and you already have a PS4 should you? Is it worth the upgrade? Yes it is. Places like GameStop will take in trades and so the difference will be far less than paying out the $399. And I will also say this, even though the PS4 PRO comes with a 1tb hard drive, if you decide to put in a 2tb, the whole process including the installation of the hard drive and os took like less than 5 min.

The Granddaddy of display stands?

So how many of you when the PSVR came out which was a month ago today, many of us were looking for a stand to display our PSVR. Some went with what was available right then which is the one from Power A which is nice, but at the cost of a full blown out game, I wanted to wait and I am glad I did.

I at the towards the end of September pre ordered the Collective Minds that charges two ds4 controllers, two move controllers, holds the PSVR helmet, but also has a place to hang your headphones and can even charge those. The thing looks like a tank and with the blue lights, gets that sort of Tronified look to it. And if something is being charged, the light goes from blue to red. So even though it was delayed a week and a half, it was worth the wait. And what is sad is that some of the reviews on Amazon is giving it 1 star ratings only because some did not want to wait.

So in a week and a half we will have Thanksgiving. And while some of us will be eating, some of us will be planning for an event that requires planning, strategies and possibly help from family members you normally would not talk to. I am talking about Black Friday. The one day/night/weekend were the shopping frenzy starts and the deals can be good, but yet the tv or big item you may try to get will be limited. Over the years I have seen where Black Friday starts at like 7:00 am and has gotten earlier through out and now starting at 5:00 pm on Thanksgiving depending on the store. There are a few apps that will have the ads on your phone, but here is the link for Black Friday ads. So with that said, be safe, have fun and score those awesome deals. 

There Is A PRO In All Of Us

Sorry about not updating like I normally do, but I had a birthday and then Halloween.

But I should be back and updating now. Plus sometimes it is good to have that mental break and just play. In case you did not notice, I updated the name of the blog to add PRO for the upcoming PS4 PRO. Why you might ask? Well not only do I love being on VR on the PSVR, but with the PS4 PRO coming out, not only will it allow developers to add to the PSVR experience, but playing enhanced games on the PS4 PRO on a 4K TV is truly going to be amazing. First and foremost this blog is about PSVR, but adding what the PRO will bring will allow a new kingdom of sorts to become one.

Delays

If you have been looking for a charge and display stand for your PSVR, you really only had one choice with the POWER A charge and display unit. Yes it does look nice, but at $49.99 I wanted something more.

So I preordered the Collective Minds one which allows you to charge two ps4 dual shock controllers, but both move controllers and a place to hang your headset which you can then plug in your headset on the back to charge it all for $34.99 and was supposed to release on October 28th...but noooooo it got pushed back. Per GameStop has a date of November 18th and hopefully Amazon will be the same. 

Another delay is the PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset. These were supposed to release shortly after the PS4 PRO, but now Sony has pushed them back until January of 2017. I say this, if the delay is only going to perfect what these should be, I am ok with that.

But if you are looking for a headset to tide you over, I would honestly suggest the Turtle Beach 350vr. Not only are these so light (honestly you may forget that they are on your head), but they do have an awesome sound with a built in amp. They do look a little cheap, but don't let that fool you one bit. Plus they match the colors of PSVR and only for $79.99.

The Pro Awaits

Coming out on November 10th the PS4 PRO makes it's long awaited debut. Retailing for $399. Comparing physical size, the PS4 Pro is 11.6 inches wide, 2.1 inches deep and 12.87 inches long, compared to the 10.4 inches wide, 1.53 inches deep and 11.33 inches long PS4 Slim. The original PS4 was 10.8 inches wide, 2.08 inches deep and 12 inches long. PS4 Pro weighs 7.26 lbs, PS4 Slim weighs 4.63 lbs and the OG PS4 weighs 6.17 pounds.

Oddly enough, when it comes to the PlayStation 4 Pro versus the PlayStation 4 Slim, only the Pro has an optical digital output terminal. Furthermore, the Pro uses more power at 310W maximum, compared to the Slim at up to 165W. PS4 Pro has three USB 3 ports; Slim has two.

So the question is does one upgrade from their current PS4 or if you recently bought a PS4 Slim? If you just bought a PS4 Slim and it was within the last 30 days from a retailer that has a return window, I would if you are sure there will be one available and have a 4k TV. Yes it's true you don't need a 4k TV, but it sure does look pretty.

A Free...Journey

Well what seems like forever and probably one of the titles mentioned that got me excited for PSVR is coming out on Tuesday is Robinson: The Journey. Something about crash landing, having a robot and opening the door to the Land Of The Lost. But per a tweet from the developer stating that the suggested retail price would be $59.99, but if you bought from Best Buy or Amazon they have it for $39.99 and if your a prime member, take another 20% off and get it for $31.99. Great thing about this is this is coming out 2 days before the PS4 PRO and will take advantage with better visuals.

It also seems that there was a small title released named Call Of Duty Infimate Warfare. And at first when the trailer was released I wasn't really excited. I mean it is cool they are adding a VR mission and they are adding MW4 remastered which honestly that was a good Call Of Duty game. Well the VR mission is called Jackal Assault and it's now free to everyone.

What A Rush

WOW...all I am going to say is WOW. What A Rush! The future of gaming is here. With the launch and release of the PSVR many of us have now got to experience what VR is all about. I honestly have not been able to put the PSVR down. Everything From Batman to Rush of Blood to even other non game experiences. Wait...What? There are other things to do with the PSVR other than games? Why yes...yes there is.

The Other PSVR Experiences:

While yes the PSVR can play games and how we not want to leave those worlds, there are some other experiences you may have forgot about or haven't tried yet.

Hulu:

I am sure we all know what Hulu is, but how is it different on the PSVR? Well ever want to escape and watch Hulu from an apartment that seems to would be from the heart of New York or what about sitting on the beach and just relaxing? With Hulu you can do this. There are some videos that are in vr and for regular Hulu, you can watch and chill in your new virtual location.

Allumete:

Allumette tells a story about love, sacrifice and an infinite bond between an orphan and her mother. The movie chronicles the life of a young girl named Allumette, who lives in a fantastical city in the clouds. Allumette features an incredible musical score and vivid and vibrant hand-crafted VR visuals. Run time is nearly 20 minutes, one of the longest VR movies to-date. You honestly feel like a giant and able to look into homes and around buildings and really is amazing

Robinson: The Journey:

I wanted to point out that it was announced on Twitter that it was announced that Robinson: The Journey is coming out on November 8th. What is interesting about this date is that this is two days before the PS4 PRO and it has confirmed that Robinson: The Journey will take advantage of the PRO's power. Another interesting thing is the price.

It has also been stated that the length is around 3-5 hours. Now it could be longer depending on how much time you want to explore, but both GameStop and Amazon, have the price at $39.99 or you can get it for $31.99 if you preorder and are a prime member from Amazon and coming out sooner. GameStop has it listed coming out on October 28th, while Amazon is showing November 3rd. Now if the fact that the actual price is $59.99 and GameStop does change the price, I asked and they are saying prices are subject to change. However, at Amazon they will match the price that you did the preorder on. So again if you are a prime member you can preorder and get it for $31.99 even if the price goes up. Just to be on the safe side, do an online chat with them and ask in any way possible and have that chat emailed to you as a back up, but this could be a savings of $28.00 and if really a 3-5 hour game/experience would be more justified.

I had to...

Wow what did we all just experience? The PSVR Hype train made it's destination and it's been a rush ever since. Did you go to any midnight openings? Depending if you bought from Amazon you had to wait for yours to be delivered, but for those that preordered from Best Buy who had midnight openings or GameStop who was opening as soon as 9:00 pm depending on your time zone, we were able to hook up the PSVR. 

I will say that is some of the nicest packaging I have experienced. I mean the only way it could have been more awesome is if lights were shining and music were playing.

And I am sure some of you after getting everything out and hooked up said..."Oh let there be cables" and yes there are a lot of cables, but I am fine with that. But even if you may not be, you have to admit, the detail on the cables with the PlayStation symbols was pretty sweet and makes connecting everything that much more easier.

Complaints and Arguments

Well some of you got everything hooked up and were playing and all is going good and then it happened...the drifting.

For those that have not experienced it, the drifting occurs when you turn your head left and for some reason the PS camera is not bringing you back to the center of view and your in the PSVR world you happen to be visiting, may have you look like your facing to the left and or right and can be quite annoying. I know it happened to me the first night experiencing Rush Of Blood. Others may have experienced it with lights or distance, so let's talk about that. I tried to play during the day on the 13th and we have blinds, so no direct sunlight was coming in, but even with sunshine it's still going to light the room. When I experienced the drifting, I was reading and saw it could be lights and reflective objects could be the cause. Well no reflective objects, but decided to put sheets on any window just to make it even darker, same thing happened. Then I got to thinking...what about all those PSVR demos at Best Buy and GameStop's? There are lights above and it's much brighter than the room I am using it in and people are still playing. Then I noticed the tvs they were using and where the camera was placed. The camera was placed on top of the tv, but the tv was only as tall as normal eye level, for those that had the camera below the tv, the camera was tilted. But noticed the height of the tables they were being used and how the camera was tilted in that case.

Well still having problems and because I have a 30 day return window and yes even bought the 2 year warranty (just in case), I was able to switch out the headset, camera and processing box (I bought the launch bundle, so the move controllers were good). I am not sure which of the three it may have been, but my camera is on top of the tv tilted at an angle. I decided to move the chair up, even though I tried this as well. I decided to do the calibration 2 x (again) under settings on the PS4 and do everything on the PSVR and also the camera to make sure the calibration was correct and all is amazing now. As others have stated they have tried exchanging and some have worked and some of have not, but now I am able to play in the same lit room with no sheets covering anything and even was able to play Job Simulator with the ceiling fan light directly above me and awesome. Something else to try is maybe turning off the tv just to be on the safe side as you do not need the tv to play PSVR.

But you might feel a little ill?

Depending on what you are playing you may feel a little nausea or motion sickness. Keep in mind your brain in being tricked in a way to make you feel what is going on. I mean going up and down those hills on Rush Of Blood, I feel like I am honestly on a roller coaster. But what can you do to help this situation. Well if you honestly start to feel sick, stop playing. You may have to build up to it. Something else you can try is what is called Sea Bands. You can get them anywhere, Target, CVS, Walgreens...ect. These bands can be worn multiple times and may help relieve that nausea. But check out some home remedies out there and even some YouTube videos to see if that helps. Remember this is new, so again you may have to build up to it.

PS4 PRO...

Well in less than a month the PS4 PRO will be out and should help with the PSVR. The question is will you be getting? You don't have to get, but on what I know how this will help with PSVR, I am getting it. Yes it's a lot of money after getting PSVR, but I plan on trading in my current PS4 so that will help with the cost and will just put my 2tb hard drive in the PRO. 

Is PSVR worth it? 

Yes! Yes! Yes!

A new way to play like never before. Playing the London Heist...wow...Batman...wow...Job Simulator...wow. Everything I have tried was an amazing time. There are plenty of reviews and sites out there going over everything and I don't want to be just doing what everyone else does. I am just a normal person doing this blog for the fun of it and not getting paid for it. We all know how light the headset is and it just works. Just remember if for some reason it seems a little off center, just hit and hold the options button for a few seconds. So with that being said I need to review some of the games. But in doing so I promise a spoil free good time and again it may not be like your normal every day review. So until next time, PSVR City seems like a awesome place to live.

Last Stop To PSVR Launch Day...

Well here we go. 

We are at the day before the official launch of PlayStation VR. We have had a long journey since pre orders officially started back in March and even longer since Project Morpheus was announced back in 2014. One Week To Go!!!

Here it is October and the fall weather is apon us. Some it may be cooler than others and some warmer than others...either way it's here. This is what we have been waiting for since the pre orders went live in March. Like I have said before, some of us have been waiting for proper VR sine TRON and the Lawnmower Man. Well, we are all about to get our dose of PSVR and for one I will be happy to take it all in.

The Reviews

I am sure you may have seen the reviews out there on the unit. Most are positive. Some are comparing the PSVR to the Vive and Oculus. Many of us have not used either of those two, But here is the thing. There was one review that was done by a company that has a magazine that the reviewer started to talk about the nausea. They also said that they get motion sickness from 3D, so my question is why would the one person that is prone to motion sickness be allowed to review PSVR? Of course they are going to give it a bad score because they cannot handle it when they are already getting sick from 3D and who knows maybe car rides. 

My point is this. Most of the "Reviewers" if you notice are in a room or studio with bright  lights. Some of the points being made is not even going to reflect on the norm as everyone's place of living is not going to be set up the same. Some of us will be playing in the dark. I mean why have the light on if you're the only one playing, It's not like you are going to see the lights in your house. Some of us may only have one or two lights in their living room. Just remember if you are getting PSVR, you getting because you want it, you want that next level of playing. Will we get a lot  of ports of things out there, sure. But honestly I am ok with that. The more we have to play, the more we get to experience and isn't that what we want...more content? Now there is also reviews of the games and even online videos showing that. But keep in mind, it may ruin the experience. So if you do not care about that, enjoy at your own risk. However, if you want to be surprised and part of VR is giving you that surprise, then avoid. 

PSVR Processing Box

Now with ever PSVR comes the processing box and it basically looks like a small PS4. But what does it actually do.

• It carries out object-based 3D audio processing ("really good and important to VR").
• it displays the social screen - undistorting the VR output for display on TV. Quality is lost in this process, so it scales the image up and crops it so you don't see edges.
• "Separate mode" - a completely separate audio and video stream you can send over to TV, as opposed to the mirrored social screen. It's sent compressed to the PU and then uncompressed by the device and sent to the screen. We're told that this was "an innovation that came quite late" in the development of the system.
• It displays PS4's system software interface in cinematic mode, handling the display of traditional 2D content.

Now what is 3D Audio? 3D Audio effects are a group of sound effects that manipulate the sound produced by stereo speakers, surround-sound speakers, speaker-arrays, or headphones. This frequently involves the virtual placement of sound sources anywhere in three-dimensional space, including behind, above or below the listener. Some are asking about will your headphones you have now work. The processing box that comes with every PSVR provides the 3D Audio. So any wired headphones will be able to be plugged into the inline remote. So that means that the headphones that come with the PSVR will allow you to hear 3D Audio. Yes even your Pulse Wireless headset will work via audio cable that came with it. If you don't have that cable any more, you can get them off Amazon pretty cheap.

Keep in mind wireless headphones will not work with PSVR. For 3D Audio/Binaural Audio you need wired headphones. If you are looking for a new set to go along with your PSVR, then I will suggest two. Releasing on October 9th we have Turtle Beach 350VR. I have been trying to find out more info as far as reviews as I want to know how actually well they do sound as some times what they have at your local store may not actually be how they sound at home. I know the charge is supposed to last at least 30 hours and has a detachable mic.

The other one is the Official Sony Platinum Wireless and according to Amazon comes out in November. With these you do get:

So yes these are wireless, but does come with the audio cable so when played with PSVR will work but comes at a price of $159.99. So it really comes down to what features your  wanting and what brand you may trust. 

So will you be sticking with what you have or will you be getting one of these new headsets?

HDR TV's

Well it has confirmed that the processing box does not support HDR pass through. So what does that mean for the ones that got an HDR TV and for the ones getting the PSVR. Well you do have some options. 

1) You will have to unplug from the processing unit to the tv each time you are wanting to switch from PSVR to regular PS4 playing on the tv. Not really that big of a deal, 3 seconds bam done.

2) The processing unit is what is allowing you to use the social screen, so basically what you are seeing in PSVR, anyone else in the room can see what you are seeing on the TV. It  also is needed if you plan on playing games like Playroom VR where others can play as one is wearing PSVR. But if you will be the only one playing PSVR or if someone wants to watch TV while you are playing (technically you don't need a tv to use PSVR) you then should be able to bypass the processing box and leave the PS4 connected as you have it.

3) Now if you don't want to keep unplugging or plugging  and have an HDR TV, then I bet there is some sort of HDMI splitter on Amazon that does support HDR and that might be the best option down the road.

PSN Deal

Right now at the PSN Store there is a deal running that if you spend $100.00 in the PSN Store you will get $15.00 back and is good until November. With PSVR coming out next/this week (depending on when you read this) the PSVR titles will be added. So feel free to stack those PSN wallets (remember you cannot have more than $150.00) in your PSN wallet (They are not a bank and therefore have guidelines they have to follow). Right now you can pre order Rez Infinite ($29.99) and 100ft Robot Golf ($19.99 or $17.99 if you have PS+) and both oth PSVR titles. But come Oct. 13th the flood gates will be open.

Well ladies and gentleman...players of all ages, now is the time. VR is coming at us full steam ahead. It's either stand and let it pass you by or get hit and get aboard the PSVR Hype Train.
